Why do texts need my business details?

US phone carriers check every business once before its texts go out, so they aren't blocked as spam. Canadian numbers don't need this.

Updated October 22, 2026

In the United States, phone carriers check every business once before its texts can go out, so your texts aren't blocked as spam. You fill in your business details one time, then carriers approve them in 1 to 3 business days. Canadian numbers skip this: texts work as soon as you have the number.

Also called: carrier registration, A2P, 10DLC, SMS registration, brand registration, EIN, texts blocked, enregistrement des textos, inscription opérateur, numéro EIN

Step 1: Open your details

In Phone system, the card Your business number shows Texts need your details. Click Add the details. It opens the Texting tab, with Your business details.

Click: Phone system › Add the details

Step 2: Fill in your business

Use the exact legal details registered with your tax authority:

  • EIN (like 12-3456789), Legal business name, Legal business type, Business industry and Company ownership.

  • Your address: Street, City, State, ZIP, and your Business website URL.

  • The person carriers can reach: first and last name, email, phone, position and title.

  • SMS privacy policy URL and SMS terms URL. These pages must describe how you text customers.

  • How customers agree to receive texts: describe where customers say yes to your texts and what they see.

Step 3: Send it

Click Save and continue. The badge turns to Calls work: calls already work, and texts turn on once carriers approve your business, in 1 to 3 business days. Then it shows Calls and texts work.

Click: Save and continue

Good to know

  • US registration is a one-time fee of 63.34 credits, charged when your details are sent. Carriers charge again if a corrected form has to be sent again.

  • Until texts work, calls work normally.

  • In the same Texting tab, under How your texts look, you can turn on Sign my texts, Reply when I'm closed and Add an unsubscribe line.

If it doesn't work

  • Texts need a fix. Carriers asked for a correction. Click Fix it, read the reason in red, correct your details and click Save and continue.

  • "Use an EIN like 12-3456789." Type your EIN with the dash.

  • "Enter a valid authorized contact phone number." Check the contact's phone.

  • "Choose a country before saving." Pick Canada or United States in Country.

  • "Registration is being submitted. Wait a moment, then save your corrections." Wait a minute, then save again.

  • "We couldn't save that. Try again." Try again in a moment.
