How do I use a database (table, board or list) in Docs?
Start an empty page as a Table, Board or List, or type "/" for a database inside a page; add columns, rows, filters, sorts and views.
A database keeps a list of things with the same details, like jobs, equipment or suppliers. Each row is also a page you can write in.
Also called: table, board, kanban, list, spreadsheet, CSV, columns, properties, base de données, tableau, liste, colonnes, propriétés.
Step 1: Make a database
On a new, empty page, pick Table, Board or List under Database. To put one inside a page, type / and pick Table view, Board view or List view. To start from a spreadsheet, click Import CSV in the sidebar.
Click: New page › Table
Step 2: Add columns
Click + at the end of the column titles, name the column and pick its type: Text, Number, Select, Status, Date, Person, Checkbox, URL, Email, Phone and more. Click a column's title to rename it, change its type, edit its options, or delete it.
Step 3: Add and fill rows
Click + New under the rows or the blue New button. Click a cell to change it. Click Open on a row to see it beside the table, with its values and a page to write in.
Step 4: Filter, sort and group
Use Filter and Sort in the toolbar. A filter can have groups of rules with And or Or. Active filters show as blue pills under the toolbar: click one to change it, or Clear to remove them. The sliders button changes the layout (Table, Board or List), groups rows by a column, and shows or hides columns.
Step 5: Add views
Click + beside the view tabs and pick a layout: Table, Board, List, Calendar, Gallery, Timeline, Chart or Form. Each view keeps its own filters, sorts and columns, and everyone who can open the database sees the same views.
Click: + › Board
Step 6: Or ask Alori
Open Ask Alori and say what you want, like "add a Due date column to Vans", "show Vans as a board by status", "lock the Vans database" or "add a van from the Service van template". It changes the database for you. Before it deletes a column, it asks you first.
