How do my customers pay invoices by card?
Every invoice you email has a Pay by card link. Your customer clicks it and pays with Stripe. Nothing to set up, and the invoice turns Paid by itself.
Card payments are on from day one. Every invoice you email has a link where your customer pays by card, and the invoice turns Paid by itself when they do. You don't need a Stripe account.
Also called: online payment, pay link, credit card, Stripe, accept cards, paiement par carte, payer en ligne, carte de crédit, lien de paiement
Step 1: Email the invoice
Open the invoice in your team app and click Email, then send it. The email has a "Pay online by card" link made just for that invoice.
Click: Invoices › the invoice › Email
Step 2: Your customer pays
Your customer opens the link. The page shows your business name, the invoice number, the Amount due and a Pay by card button, with "Secure payment by Stripe." They click it and pay on Stripe's secure page, in English or French.
Step 3: See it paid
When the payment goes through, your customer sees "Paid, thank you!". In your team app, the invoice turns Paid and its page says "Paid by card on" with the date.
Good to know
Card payments are in Canadian dollars (CAD).
Your business name shows on your customer's card statement.
One link per invoice. If you email it again, the link stays the same with the current total.
The money waits for you until you add your bank. See How do I add my bank to get paid?
Before you add your bank, up to $5,000 can wait. Past that, new card payments stop until you add it.
Money still waiting after 90 days goes back to the customers who paid it. Add your bank before then.
If it doesn't work
Your customer sees one of these messages on the pay page:
"Card payment isn't available for this invoice. Contact the business to pay another way." You may have reached the $5,000 you can hold before adding your bank. Add your bank, or take the payment another way and click Mark paid.
"This invoice changed since it was sent. Ask the business for the new link." The total changed. Email the invoice again.
"This invoice is already paid. Thank you!" It's already paid, by card or marked paid by you.
"This link doesn't work anymore. Ask the business for a new one." The invoice was deleted. Make a new one and email it.
"Something went wrong. Try again in a moment." Ask your customer to try again in a minute.
